St. Croix LEAP

Goverment House in St. croixThe Life Environmental Arts Project founded many years ago by noted woodworking artist Fletcher Pense still thrives in the rain forest north of Frederiksted, and is well worth the drive. Island mahogany, tibet and saman woods are harvested from fallen trees and given new life as exquisite pieces of furniture, clocks, serving boards, countertops and more. This is the place to come for a real conversation-piece souvenir.

St. Croix's rugged interior is carpeted with trees. Mahogany trees in particular are being used by artists to carve unique items that are characteristic of St. Croix. An artist well known by the name Cheech carves unique sculptures of people, and he's happy to personalize the items just for you. Ask anyone in the area and they'll give you directions to find The Mahogany Guy!
